It opens a page with the amount, your QR, your UPI ID and a Pay button, so the person can pay you straight from their own UPI app. No payment gateway, no signup, no cut. When the money lands, mark the request paid from your private edit link.
A payment link without a payment gateway
Payment companies will sell you a payment link too, but they want a merchant account, documents, a settlement cycle and a percentage of each payment.
You don't need any of that to ask someone for money. The money goes straight from their UPI app to your bank, so nothing sits in between taking a cut. We don't ask for an email or a phone number.
What the person you're asking sees
They open the link and see your name, the amount and what it's for (plus the due date, if you set one), with three ways to pay:
- Scan the QR from another phone or a computer screen. Works for any amount within their normal UPI limit.
- Tap Pay to open their UPI app with everything filled in. Since 1 April 2024, NPCI has told UPI apps to block these link payments when the money goes to a personal UPI ID, so they may see "This transaction may be risky". Links work for verified merchant UPI IDs.
- Pay to your UPI ID, shown on the page. They copy it into their UPI app's send-money option. Works for any amount within their normal limit, and is the most reliable route for a personal UPI ID.
So in your message, add one line: "If the button doesn't work, pay to my UPI ID: name@okaxis."
Sending it on WhatsApp
Copy the link, paste it into the chat, and send. It's an ordinary web link, so it stays clickable in WhatsApp, SMS, email, Instagram DMs and anywhere else, unlike a raw upi:// link.
Messages you can copy
First request
"Hi Neha, here's the link for the October class fee, ₹2,500. If the Pay button doesn't work, pay to my UPI ID shown on the page. Thank you!"
Shared bill
"Dinner on Saturday came to ₹3,000, so ₹600 each. Here's your link. This week would be great."
Friendly reminder
"Hi Mr Mehta, a gentle reminder for invoice SK/2627/014, ₹12,400. The link has my QR and UPI ID."
Final reminder
"Hi, following up on the ₹8,000 deposit for the 12 November booking. Please pay by Friday so we can hold the date."
Name the amount and what it's for every time. It removes the "which one was that?" round trip.
Why it beats "just send me ₹2,500"
Amounts typed by hand go wrong: a missing zero, a swapped digit, a payment that arrives two days later because they meant to do it properly from the laptop. A link with the figure, the reason and the due date on it removes all three.
Good for: a freelance invoice, a shared bill, fees, a deposit, money a friend owes you.
Tracking it
Status. Each request shows as pending, overdue once the due date passes, or paid when you mark it. Mark it paid from your edit link after you see the money in your bank app; the link then tells the payer it's settled.
Monthly requests. Tick "Repeats every month" for rent or fees. Each month, open your edit link and tap "Create next month's request": it makes a new request, with its own link, for the next month.
Your requests are listed under "My items" in the browser you made them on. Keep the edit links somewhere safe: there's no account to recover them from.
Timing your reminders
Send the first request when the money's due, not before. Early requests get forgotten.
Remind once after three or four days, with the same link.
Make the final reminder specific: a date, and what happens next.
Stop at three. After that it's a conversation, not a link.
This is not a collect request
The words sound alike, so it's worth being clear.
A UPI collect request was a pull: the requester's app sent a demand to yours, and approving it with your PIN sent them money. It was behind one of the most common UPI scams, and NPCI stopped person-to-person collect requests on 1 October 2025.
A payment request link is a push. It shows the person what you're asking for, and they pay you the normal way if they choose to. Nobody enters a PIN to receive anything.
How collect request scams worked, and where they went
When you want something else
Lots of people, one amount each: Bulk QR codes
A group paying towards one list: Group collection
A proper bill with line items and GST: Invoice
A standing link for anyone to pay: Pay page
Questions
How do I send a UPI payment request?
Enter the amount, the reason and your UPI ID here, copy the link, and send it on WhatsApp.
UPI payment link kaise banaye aur bheje?
Is page par amount, kis cheez ka paisa hai, aur apni UPI ID daaliye. Link turant ban jaayega. Use WhatsApp par bhej dijiye. Saath mein likh dijiye: "Button kaam na kare to page par di gayi UPI ID par payment kar dijiye", kyunki personal UPI ID par link wale payment kai apps block karti hain.
Does the person need an account anywhere?
No. They just need a UPI app.
Can I see whether they've paid?
Not automatically. Check your own UPI app or bank account, then mark the request paid from your edit link.
Does the link expire?
It stays live until you delete it from your edit link, or until nobody has opened it for 12 months, when it's deleted automatically. It's a page on ezyupi.com, so it needs our site to be up.
Will it work on an iPhone?
Yes. On an iPhone the page offers a button for each common UPI app, plus your QR and UPI ID.
Is there a limit on the amount?
₹1 to ₹1,00,000 per request, the same as one UPI payment for most people.
Is this a collect request?
No. Person-to-person collect requests ended on 1 October 2025. This is a link to a page where the other person chooses to pay you.
