What goes on it
Your details. Your name or business name, address, GSTIN if you have one (it's checked for the right 15-character format), and the UPI ID you're paid on.
Your customer's details. Name, contact and address.
Up to 50 line items. Description, quantity and rate. Tick Charge GST to add an HSN or SAC code and a GST rate to each line, then choose CGST + SGST for a customer in your own state, or IGST for one in another state.
The rest. Invoice number and date, a due date, a discount, notes of up to 500 characters and, with GST on, the place of supply and whether tax is payable on reverse charge. You can add an authorised signatory too: the name is printed under a signature line.
The QR. Built from your UPI ID with the invoice total fixed in it and "Invoice" plus your invoice number as the payment note, so the payment arrives in your passbook already labelled. For a total above ₹1,00,000, the QR is left open so the customer types the amount.
Why the QR matters
An invoice is a request. A payable invoice is a payment waiting to happen.
The gap between those two is where small businesses lose weeks. Your customer means to pay, opens the PDF, sees an account number and IFSC, decides to do it properly from the laptop later, and later becomes next Tuesday. With the amount already in the QR, paying is quicker than putting it off.
Where your invoice is kept
On ezyupi, at a private link. When you create an invoice, it's saved so you can share a link your customer can open, and you get a separate edit link to change it or mark it paid. Anyone with the view link can see the invoice, so share it only with your customer. Keep the edit link private, like a password. An invoice nobody has opened for 12 months is deleted automatically.
Your business details stay in this browser, with the last invoice number, so your next invoice starts filled in and numbered. Your invoices also appear under "My items" on this device. Clearing your browser data clears that list, so save your edit links somewhere safe.

What a GST tax invoice must show
If you're registered for GST, Rule 46 of the CGST Rules lists what a tax invoice must contain. The main items, and how to cover each one here:
| Required by Rule 46 | How to include it |
|---|
| Your name, address and GSTIN | Your details section |
| A consecutive invoice number, unique in the financial year | Invoice number field (numbered automatically on this device) |
| Date of issue | Date field |
| Customer's name and address, and GSTIN if registered | Customer section (put their GSTIN in the address line) |
| HSN code for goods or SAC for services | The HSN/SAC box on each line |
| Description, quantity and value | Line items |
| Taxable value after discount | Calculated |
| Tax rate and amount, split into CGST and SGST or IGST | Calculated per line |
| Place of supply with the state name, for inter-state bills | The place of supply box, e.g. "Maharashtra (27)" |
| Delivery address, if different from the place of supply | Notes |
| Whether tax is payable on reverse charge | The reverse charge box: choose No or Yes |
| Signature or digital signature | The authorised signatory box prints a signature line with your name. Sign the printed copy, or apply a digital signature to the PDF |
Customers who aren't registered. If the taxable value is ₹50,000 or more, the invoice must also carry their name and address, the delivery address, and the state name and code.
This is general information. Your accountant can confirm the exact format for your business.
Numbering your invoices
Rule 46 sets the format:
- Up to 16 characters.
- Letters, numbers, hyphens and slashes only.
- Unique within each financial year. You can run more than one series, but a number can't repeat inside a year.
A simple pattern: SK/2627/001, SK/2627/002, where SK is your business and 2627 is the 2026-27 financial year. Start again at 001 each April.
Not registered for GST?
If you're not registered for GST, you can't charge it, so leave Charge GST unticked and the bill shows no tax.
A bill of supply is a different document. It's what a registered business issues for exempt supplies, or under the composition scheme, where tax can't be shown on the bill. If either applies to you, use that document with the wording your accountant gives you.
GST rates changed in September 2025
Since 22 September 2025, the main GST rates are 5% and 18%, with 40% for a short list of luxury and "sin" goods. The old 12% and 28% slabs were removed for most goods, gold and jewellery have their own 3% rate, and since 1 February 2026 cigarettes, pan masala and other tobacco products are at 40%, with bidis at 18%. If your item rates come from an old invoice or price list, check them before you bill. Each line offers 0%, 5%, 18% and 40%, the special rates 0.25%, 1.5% and 3%, or any other rate you type under "Other". 12% and 28% are still there, marked as old rates, so invoices you made earlier still open.

E-invoicing is a separate rule
Businesses with annual turnover above ₹5 crore have had to generate e-invoices for B2B invoices, exports and debit notes through the government's invoice registration portal since 1 August 2023. Bills to unregistered customers (B2C) aren't covered. The portal adds an Invoice Reference Number and a signed QR code of its own.
That signed e-invoice QR is a tax document, different from the payment QR on this page. If e-invoicing applies to you, your invoice carries both. Check with your accountant.
When the invoice isn't paid
Open your invoice's edit link and send a WhatsApp reminder from there. It includes the invoice link, so paying takes one tap:
"Hi Mr Mehta, a reminder for invoice SK/2627/014 for ₹12,400, due on 15 October. You can pay using the QR on the invoice or this link. Thank you."
Mention the invoice number and amount every time. It removes the "which bill was that?" round trip.
If your customer pays from the same phone they're reading on, they can't scan the QR on their own screen. On Android the invoice link has a Pay button, but since April 2024 UPI apps block link and button payments to personal UPI IDs. The invoice shows your UPI ID, so they can pay to that ID from their app and add the invoice number as the note. A screenshot of the QR picked from their gallery is limited to ₹2,000 for personal UPI IDs.
